goBaliPreviously, the way 99% planned their trip was wrong—they spent time on a "must-see list" but ignored the realities of traveling in Bali:The distances between attractions are far greater than you might imagine, and the travel time is worth planning carefully.

巴厘岛旅游地图

Bali may not be a large island, but different areas have completely different vibes. Choosing the wrong area to stay in is like choosing the wrong place for your entire trip.

area Suitable for Core Experience
Kuta/Seminy Young people, partygoers surfNightlife, shopping
Ubud Art lovers, slow travelers Rice paddies, temples, yoga, traditional culture
Kangu Surfing enthusiasts, digital nomads Surfing, cafes, lazy beaches
Nusa Dua Vacation families, honeymoon High-end resorts, tranquil bay
Blue Dream Island diving enthusiasts Snorkeling, diving, pristine seawater

suggestion: My first trip to Bali involved staying 2 nights in Ubud and 3 nights in the southern beach area, covering both core experiences while keeping the travel distance relatively manageable.

What are the must-see attractions?

? Ubud area

乌布地区图片

Tegallalang Rice Terrace Bali's most classic rice paddy scenery. It's recommended to arrive before 7 AM to avoid crowds and the midday sun; the photo quality will be drastically different. The popular swings are not worth the price and have long queues, so they're not great value.

Tirta Empul Temple One of Bali's most important Hindu holy sites, this place offers opportunities to participate in purification rituals and experience authentic local religious life. A sarong is required for entry; they can be rented at the entrance.

Ubud Monkey Forest The experience is fun, but the monkeys will snatch your things—keep your phone, sunglasses, and snacks out of reach, and don't show any items that could be stolen before you go in.

? Southern Beach Area

巴厘岛南部海滩

Tanah Lot (Single Beach) The temple on the sea offers one of the most beautiful views of the entire island at sunset. It's recommended to arrive around 4 pm to wait for the sunset; the entire evening is worth spending there.

Uluwatu Temple A temple perched on a cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean. A traditional Kacha dance performance is held after sunset; tickets cost approximately 100 RMB and are highly recommended. Be aware of the risk of monkeys attempting to steal your belongings.

Kuta Beach Suitable for surfing beginners, the waves are not big, and there are many surfing schools. A half-day course costs around 100-150 RMB to learn the basics of standing on a board.

? Outlying Islands Area

巴厘岛蓝梦岛

Nusa Lembongan It takes about 30-45 minutes by speedboat from Bali. The water is much clearer than that of the island itself, offering excellent visibility for snorkeling, where you can see manta rays and sea turtles. It's worth a day trip or an overnight stay.

What to eat: Truly delicious Balinese food

  • Babi Guling— Roast suckling pig is most famous in Ibu Oka, Ubud. Go before 10 am, or it will be sold out.
  • SatayStreet-side skewers, pork or chicken, dipped in peanut sauce, are extremely cheap.
  • Mie GorengIndonesian fried noodles, a staple food for locals, can be found everywhere.
  • Fresh coconut— Freshly opened by the roadside, about 10 RMB, a top choice for cooling off in the summer.

Coffee shop culture: Cango has the highest density of coffee shops on the island, offering coffee that rivals that of specialty coffee shops in first-tier cities, but at half the price of coffee shops in China. It's worth spending half a day exploring it.

巴厘岛交通情况

Transportation: Chartering a car is the optimal solution.

Charter driverThis is the most efficient option for independent travel in Bali. A car costs about 200-300 RMB per day and can take you all over the island. The driver can usually communicate in basic Chinese and can also recommend local restaurants.

Trip planning suggestions:

  • Group nearby attractions together on the same day to avoid repeated back-and-forth trips.
  • A full day will be allocated to attractions in the Ubud area.
  • Danta Beach and Uluwatu Temple can be visited on the same day, as they are both in the south and relatively close together.

GrabSuitable for short-distance, point-to-point travel, with good coverage in the Kuta and Seminyak areas.Rent a motorcycleIt offers the highest degree of freedom, but the road conditions are complex, so it's not recommended for beginners.

Best time to travel and practical information

  • Best season: April to October is the dry season, with sunny weather suitable for outdoor activities.
  • visa: Chinese passport holders can obtain a visa on arrival for 30 days free of charge, which can be renewed once upon expiry.
  • currency: Indonesian Rupiah (IDR): ATM cash withdrawals usually offer a better exchange rate than currency exchange; however, be aware of transaction fees.
  • socket: European style with two round pins; a converter plug is recommended.
  • language: English is widely spoken in tourist areas, and Chinese is becoming increasingly common in tourist destinations.

Things you must know in advance: The attractions are really far apart.

Many people look at a map and think Bali isn't very big, assuming it's only a half-hour taxi ride away. But once they arrive, they discover the reality is completely different—

It takes about 1.5 hours to get from Kuta to Ubud. It takes about 1.5-2 hours to get from Ubud to Uluwatu Temple. From Seminyak to Tan Tat Beach, it takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour. It takes about an hour to get from the southern beach area to the Tegallalang Rice Terraces.

Moreover, Bali's roads don't follow the highway logic—it's common to encounter villages, winding through mountains, and being blocked by religious processions. During peak season, traffic jams on popular routes can easily turn a 45-minute journey into 1.5 hours.

Visiting three or four scenic spots a day, it's common to spend more than 4-5 hours sitting in the car.

During this period, most people's first reaction is to take out their phones, open NetEase Cloud Music, and prepare to listen to music to relax.

Then I discovered—The playlist is grayed out, loading is in a loop, and there are copyright restrictions, so not a single song can be played.

What should be done about the strike by domestic music apps like NetEase Cloud Music in Bali?

This is a problem that almost everyone encounters when traveling independently in Bali, but few people know about in advance.

You sit in your chartered car, looking out at the tropical rainforest and rice paddies. The driver is navigating a winding mountain road; you have an hour to go before reaching the next destination. You open NetEase Cloud Music and discover:

  • Most of the songs in my saved playlist are grayed out, with a message saying "Unable to play due to copyright issues."
  • Online playlists cannot sync; none of the songs added in the country are included.
  • New albums and daily recommendations all fail to load.
  • I tried QQ Music, Kugou, and Himalaya one by one, and each one gave me an error.

It's not that there's something wrong with your phone, nor is it that the network in Bali is too bad.

root cause: Domestic platforms like NetEase Cloud Music and QQ Music only authorize content to play within mainland China. Once access from an overseas IP address is detected, the copyright protection mechanism is automatically triggered, leaving very little playable content. What could have been an enjoyable car ride turned into staring blankly at the loading screen.

Solution: Install QuickFox before departure.

QuickFox Repatriation AcceleratorThat's the problem that's been solved.

After connecting to QuickFox's domestic node, NetEase Cloud Music recognized a domestic IP address, and the copyright restrictions were automatically lifted—the playlist was complete, online playback was smooth, and lyrics loaded normally, just like using it in China.

On the mountain road from Ubud to Uluwatu, during the 45-minute speedboat ride to Lembongan Island, and spending the entire afternoon daydreaming at a seaside cafe—everything was normal when I opened NetEase Cloud Music.

The same scenarios and platforms apply:

  • QQ Music, Kugou, and Himalaya have all returned to normal.
  • The issue of WeChat video call lag has been resolved.
  • The disappearance of content on the domestic version of Douyin and the frequent triggering of Alipay's cross-regional risk control measures also cover [the following issues].
